What I Learned from Clean

A few years ago, a very good friend of mine in NY introduced me to Dr. Junger’s Clean program.  It was right around the same time that I had my appendix removed because of acute lower right sided abdominal pain only to be told by the surgeon the next day that my appendix was normal.  I was sent to a GI doc who did an endoscopy.  H. pylori was found and I was treated with triple antibiotics.  No follow-up or treatment plan was recommended.  I have actually had intermittent abdominal bloating, cramping, and mainly constipation for years.  I thought I was eating healthy because I love vegetables, salads, fruits and fish.  However, I also love scones, bagels, pizza, coffee and wine.

When I started the elimination diet, I immediately felt a difference.  The abdominal discomfort disappeared.  My bowel movements became more regular.  I felt that my health was in my hands and that I can make a difference in my life.  I felt like I was a kid again doing the cleanse.  My eyesight was better, my jeans fit better, and I was naturally decluttering and organizing my surrounding without even thinking about it.

Currently, I am lucky to live in an area where there is so many choices to buy locally grown organic foods.  I feel that I know my body and what the food triggers are however I am learning every day.  Stress is a big trigger for me.  I live a busy life with 4 children, a dog and a husband who travels quite a bit.  I have a tendency to become melancholic.  My saving grace is meditation, prayer and deep breathing as well as running.  I find that if I am here in the present moment with whatever I am doing, I can handle it and I make better choices.  I am thankful to be a part of Clean especially when I am giving the opportunity to help someone feel better.
