I feel like I caught a cold. What do I do?

What you’re feeling is most likely not a cold, but common cleansing symptoms (such as stuffy nose, headaches, low energy). These symptoms are letting you know that your body is working hard to get itself back into balance by removing the junk. 

Here are some tips to help you through these symptoms:

  • Personal TLC (Tender Love and Care): If symptoms become difficult, treat yourself with love and care. Take a warm bath and go to bed early.

  • Slow down: If your symptoms are feeling too intense, there is nothing wrong with slowing the Cleanse down. To do this, you can stop one or both of your shakes and supplements for a few days, while continuing to eat from the Cleanse Diet. When you are feeling better, just start up where you left off. If you would like, you can extend the Cleanse by a few days to make up for any missed time during your 21-day program. Alternatively, to lightly slow-down the Cleanse, simply add in a light meal for dinner from the Cleanse Diet.

  • Call a Wellness Coach: If you’re dealing with a challenging symptom, contact a Wellness Coach for support

  • Journey, not a destination: Clean can often uncover issues that the body has been dealing with for years, but hasn’t brought to the surface. Your overall health is a journey and may require more time and attention than the 21-day Cleanse. If that is the case, we suggest visiting Find a Functional Medicine Practitioner to find a doctor in your area who can help you.

If your symptoms do not clear up in three days, please stop the Cleanse and contact your family healthcare practitioner.

If you are certain that you have a cold, flu, or virus, it is a good idea to take a break from cleansing until you are well again. 

When you catch a cold, your body needs to devote a lot of energy to fighting off the infection. Cleansing actually takes a lot of energy, too. If your body is trying to both cleanse and fight the infection at the same time, you risk not getting a deep cleanse, and not getting well quickly.

  • If you stick with the Cleanse Diet for 3 solid meals each day, you can pick up right where you left off with the supplements and shakes after you feel better and still have a great cleanse. It might also be a good idea to contact your doctor and talk to them about what has happened.
